Personal Training

Are You Ready For PRO-APT?

  • Are you finding it harder to do the activities you love?
  • Are you wishing you could shed some pounds and tone muscles?
  • Do you exercise regularly and find yourself injured more than you would expect?
  • Have you been thinking about starting or restarting a training program?
  • Do you feel your life is too busy to join a club?
  • Are you curious about having a personal trainer but fear it's too expensive?
  • Do you think ... "If I could only train from home?"

If you answer YES to any of the above, you may be ready for PRO-APT 1-on-1 personal training sessions designed just for you and in the comfort of your own home. My name is Ken Masarie. I am a certified personal trainer (NASM-CPT, CES, PES) with decades of training and competitive running experience. I specialize in working with clients who want to increase their level of fitness and be better able to do the activities they love.

My focus is on functional training, which includes flexibility, balance, core strength, resistance training, and cardiorespiratory endurance. My role as your trainer is to help you reach your goals in a safe and supportive environment, to develop a customized training program to fit your busy schedule, and to help you help yourself. If you would like to learn more, please send me an e-mail and we'll schedule a time to talk.

Getting Started with PRO-APT

During our initial conversation, I will learn a bit about your training goals. You will learn a little about my training philosophy and what our work together might look like. If we both decide PRO-APT is a good fit, we'll schedule your FREE 45-minute fitness assessment, where I will 1) guide you through a series of static and dynamic positions, 2) provide a cursory summary of my findings, and 3) propose an initial training strategy based on those findings. If you then decide to move forward, we will make it happen!

PRO-APT Clients ...

C.W. (Portland, OR; 2024)

"Ken has provided a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment on every FaceTime session I’ve had. I look forward to every hour I get to spend with Ken because I feel so well cared for. He does his homework before every session so I can count on a session that has been tailored to my needs. His knowledge about the musculature, the connective tissues and joints is always based on the most recent research. And probably the best thing about Ken is just how likable he is. He makes me feel good about myself and my efforts. It’s not unusual for him to follow up on a completed workout with an affirmative text and his signature bicep emoji. If I hadn’t discovered Coach Ken, I am fairly certain that my confidence in maintaining active with my favorite physical activities would be declining with each passing year. I now believe that I will be strong and sturdy for many, many more years."

T.M. (Cleveland, OH; 2023)

"After 3 months of working virtually with Coach Ken, I am now on a solid path to better posture, core strength and balance in my mid 60’s and beyond. Coach Ken has given me what I feel are the keys to maintaining a strong body as I age. I am a tall woman who has played various sports throughout my years. I had both hips replaced and had also been increasingly receiving comments on my poor posture. Ken gave me an in depth understanding of the body and the interconnection of its parts. He carefully chose certain exercises to achieve my goals, and covered them repeatedly, in different variations. He corrected certain muscle massage methods and exercises I had been previously been doing. He suggested adding certain equipment to my regimen, such as balance discs, which I am so psyched to use from now on. I started taking notes during sessions because everything Coach Ken said was detailed and important to achieving the correct result; I didn’t want to miss anything or forget it for when I would be doing it on my own. Coach Ken gave excellent feedback in multiple ways, including demonstrating correct form himself, sending photos of points where I achieved correct form, coupled with his ever-present positive reinforcement, delivered with enthusiasm. I am motivated to continue on with his regimen. I highly recommend Coach Ken."

C.P. (Boulder, CO; 2022)

"I contacted Ken for help reversing my age-related loss of muscle tone, balance and core strength. After an assessment that pinpointed specific areas of weakness and imbalance, he tailored workout sessions with my specific fitness goals in mind, and I am very pleased with my progress after only 6 weeks. Ken is an experienced athlete with up-to-date knowledge of exercise physiology and functional training. He always explains the what and why of a particular movement, and is a stickler for proper form and posture. Ken also helped my teenage boy get into condition for a high school sport - he relates well with teens and gives lots of positive feedback."

B.M. (Longmont, CO; 2022)

B.W. (Portland, OR; 2021)

"I trained with Ken for several months in preparation for a long distance backpacking trip. I am certain that Ken's knowledge and careful attention helped enable me to have an injury free and successful trip. His emphasis on preparing to do the things we love was exactly what I needed. He is caring, extremely competent, and able to focus on exactly what the client needs for their fitness. Working remotely has worked well, and Ken is able to correct postures and workout moves which I greatly appreciate. I always feel better after a session with Ken and will continue to work with him. I can't recommend him highly enough!"

L.L. (Portland, OR; 2021)

"I have been training with Ken remotely since before the pandemic, and also since before getting pregnant. I continued to train with Ken throughout my pregnancy, and am still training now that I'm 39 weeks. I never expected to feel so strong while pregnant. Working with Ken I feel confident that the support I am receiving is the best possible. Ken is extremely knowledgeable and constantly looks for new information to optimize his sessions. I am so glad I decided to continue to work with him during this time, it has definitely surpassed my expectations about how it would feel like to be pregnant."

J.M. (Longmont, CO; 2018)

E.G. (Boulder, CO; 2020)

"Ken's personalized approach to training is pure decadence. He builds my workouts based on my fitness level and my goals and he checks in to make sure I am having fun. He shares his vast knowledge of the human body, educates me on why we are performing each exercise and stresses the importance of proper form, always connecting how it translates into "real life" movements. Ken's team attitude is just the motivation I needed to achieve the outcome I haven't been able to reach on my own. I don't feel like I am just working out with Ken, I feel like I am learning lifelong skills that will allow me an active and healthy body for years to come."

C.M. (Portland, OR; 2020)

"Over the past several months, Coach Ken has changed the way I think about fitness. His kind demeanor and incredible understanding of the body ‐ specifically muscle actions and physiology ‐ have allowed for efficient and encouraging biweekly sessions. The amazing thing is that this has all been accomplished remotely via the internet. Coach Ken is observant and can correct subtle issues with my form in a way that encourages me to do things differently the next time. In addition, he acknowledges corrections that he sees me making on my own which feels really good. The convenience of remote training can not be underestimated. It has really allowed me to take control of my body again. Can't imagine having a better coach to support me."

B.B. (Boulder, CO; 2019)

"Being a long time runner who is trying to stay fit for life, I was finding weaknesses in my body as well as wanting a new workout routine. I turned to Coach Ken for guidance partly because he is an athlete himself but also because he is open to working with all ages and abilities of fitness. He would be very good for beginners too!!! In my first training session with him, he was able to spot the weak areas in my physical structure. As I continue to do the strengthening exercises designed by Coach Ken for me, I am already seeing improvement in my mobility. Coach Ken prepared a workout session based on a prior discussion of my goals & limitations. He does a very good job of demonstrating an exercise, making sure that the trainee performs it correctly. He is patient, encouraging, supportive and molds the workout to fit the person. I highly recommend him as a personal trainer and plan for more training sessions with him myself."

K.M. (Portland, OR; 2020)

"Even though I work out a lot I have been blown away with how much better my body is functioning after only one month of training with Coach Ken. He combined his assessment of my body functioning with my personal goals and came up with a unique training program geared uniquely to me. During our biweekly training sessions he is just the right amount of enthusiastic, upbeat, encouraging as well as pushing me gently, always on the lookout for improvement. Plus it is so easy to meet via Face Time. I just walk downstairs. Even in this brief month, he changed the workouts slightly before my body acclimated to maximize progress. I am still slightly sore after every workout but not too much. After one month I can already lift up heavier items, open jars and the painful knees I started with are on the mend. Plus, he has given me guidance on ways to maximize my aerobic workouts too. I plan to work with Coach Ken until I solidify my habit of well-rounded workouts that will carry me strongly forward as I age. Forever grateful for this opportunity."
